The Gatekeeper was created with a specific intention: to guard the threshold.
Designed to live near an entrance, the lion stands as a watchful presence over the home and those within it. He represents loyalty, honor, and respect—the principles by which one is welcomed through the gate. Those who cross the threshold in that spirit enter as friends. Those who arrive carrying jealousy, envy, manipulation, or ill will encounter something altogether different.
Everflow approaches certain paintings as more than images. He considers them intentional objects—visual technologies capable of holding and transmitting the energy with which they were created. Central to this philosophy is water. Because paint contains water, and because Everflow believes water can carry information and intention, the act of painting becomes a way of embedding purpose into the physical work.
The Gatekeeper was painted from that understanding.
Every layer, gesture, color, and watchful mark was built around the intention of protection. The lion does not hunt. He does not pursue. He watches. His role is to recognize what approaches the threshold and stand between the sanctuary within and whatever does not belong there.
Everflow has witnessed moments around the painting that reinforced his belief in its protective presence—including individuals carrying uncomfortable or disruptive energy becoming physically uneasy in its presence and choosing to leave. Whether understood spiritually, psychologically, energetically, or simply through the primal authority of the lion itself, The Gatekeeper was created to alter the atmosphere around the space it inhabits.
It is both guardian and boundary.
