Crown of Pain
Artist Everflow | 2026
Mixed media on canvas | 48 × 36 in.
From Becoming the Artist King
Crown of Pain is a portrait of the inner torment Everflow has carried on his way to becoming the Artist King.
For years, he lived with undiagnosed neurodivergence, struggling to focus, remember, and begin the work he could already see in his mind. He mistook those struggles for failure. Understanding his mind and finding proper treatment have helped, but some days he still stands before the canvas, caught between the need to paint and the painful effort of making the first mark.
The search for relief is part of this painting too. Everflow knows how tempting it can be to reach for something that quiets the torment, and he works to find healthier ways through it. Painting is one of them. It can keep him awake at night, calling him back to the canvas even when he is exhausted.
The crown is heavy. The skull, wounded heart, rose, and restless marks give shape to a battle that others may never see. Every stroke carries some of the effort it took to begin—and to keep going.
Crown of Pain does not declare that the struggle is over. It honors the artist who continues to create within it. That is part of becoming the Artist King.
