THE CHAMELEON

The Chameleon marks an opening chapter in The Becoming of the Artist King—the moment Everflow began transforming his lived experiences into a visual mythology.

The story reaches back to his journey through the Los Angeles music industry. Moving through unfamiliar cultures, communities, and creative worlds, Everflow learned how to adapt. He immersed himself in the lives and experiences of people who came from places different from his own, attempting to understand the world through their eyes.

Along the way, he found himself walking in the footsteps of people he had once misunderstood. The people he judged, he became. The things he once said he would never do, he did. These experiences awakened a deeper compassion for the complicated, shared humanity within us all—but constant adaptation also carried a cost.

When a person changes colors often enough to survive, where does adaptation end and the authentic self begin?

That question lives inside The Chameleon.

The painting explores transformation, identity, and the faces we reveal or conceal while moving through different environments. It represents both the gift of entering another person’s world and the danger of becoming so fluent in transformation that one loses sight of the original face underneath.

Although this is an opening chapter, it is not the beginning of Everflow’s story. Future works will travel further back—to bullying, running, survival, and the experiences that first taught him how to change his colors. The Chameleon is the threshold where those earlier chapters begin transforming into the Artist King.

WHEN THE PAINTING SPEAKS

The Chameleon was not created from a controlled sketch or predetermined image. It emerged through instinct, movement, and an evolving conversation with the canvas.

Paint was thrown, poured, layered, and pulled across its surface. Everflow worked with brushes, his hands, and his fingers—at times clawing through the wet material and carving grooves into it. Transparent passages collide with complementary colors. Fine, delicate markings live beside bold and aggressive gestures.

The result is raw, immediate, and impossible to duplicate.

Everflow believes that every painting possesses a voice. For him, the water within the paint becomes a vessel for memory, emotion, and energy. As the work develops, he listens for the moment when it begins revealing what already exists inside it. Rather than forcing every image into place, he excavates the figures the painting shows him.

Look deeply into the eyes.

Inside the left eye, a woman emerges holding an object above her head. Beneath the eye, the marks descend into what resembles a long, flowing dress evocative of African ceremonial attire. The right eye reveals another woman in a similar posture—another partially concealed figure lifting something overhead.

These women were not planned as conventional illustrations. They emerged through the movement of the paint and were recognized as Everflow continued to observe, listen, and respond.

These are the quiet discoveries hidden throughout his work—images that may remain invisible at first, then suddenly become impossible not to see. The Chameleon does not reveal everything at once. It changes with the viewer, the distance, the light, and the moment in which it is encountered.

A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME AWARD

In July 2026, Everflow entered his first juried art competition. He submitted only two paintings, and both were recognized among the competition’s FAV15%. The Chameleon went further, receiving the BoldBrush Award for Abstract from judge Dan Graziano.

The BoldBrush Award is a true once-in-a-lifetime distinction: an artist may receive it only once during their lifetime. No matter what Everflow creates or accomplishes in the future, he can never win this particular award again.

For his first major award to carry that distinction makes The Chameleon a permanent landmark in Everflow’s artistic history. It was the moment when an intensely personal, instinctive painting received recognition beyond the studio—and confirmed that Everflow’s visual language could speak to people who had never heard its story.

THE COLLECTOR AND THE CONTINUING JOURNEY

Soon after the award was announced, a collector asked whether The Chameleon was available. The recognition brought his attention to the painting, but he did not acquire it merely because it had won. He acquired it because the work moved him.

Today, The Chameleon resides in a private collection. Its collector has described the painting as priceless to him and has expressed his support for allowing it to appear in future juried competitions and exhibitions.

Its journey is not finished.

Everflow intends for The Chameleon to continue traveling into new competitions and, when the right opportunity arrives, museums and public exhibitions. He believes its once-in-a-lifetime BoldBrush Award will not be the final recognition attached to its name.

Awards and exhibitions become part of an original artwork’s provenance—its documented life in the world. They build visibility, cultural significance, and history around a work, while allowing the collector to participate in something larger than ownership alone.

This is what it means to become part of the Everflow universe: to recognize a story early, preserve an original chapter, and help that story continue traveling into the world.

THE ORIGINAL

A reproduction can carry the image into other homes, but only the original contains the physical event itself—the actual layers, grooves, gestures, energy, and history of its creation.

There will never be another Chameleon produced through these exact movements. Its rawness is part of its permanence. It is the record of something that happened only once.

Its current collector valuation is $35,000. This figure does not represent an active offer for sale; it reflects the significance the work now holds within its private collection and within Everflow’s developing body of work.
